The worship of the Archangel Michael was brought in Italy by Longobards. According to tradition, there is the pilgrimage to the abbey of Monticchio on Mount Vulture, the distribution of the “blessed” bread and the visit to the Sanctuary of Mount Gargano (Foggia). The anniversary commemorates the event of 10 December 1854 when the citizens of Monteverde walked barefoot until Monticchio to obtain by the Saint the end of the Asian disease.
